What is Prop 65?

The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, first became law in California in 1986 and is commonly known as Proposition 65 or simply Prop 65.

It sets out stringent rules for manufacturers to disclose their use of chemicals used in products or manufacturing processes that have even the slightest potential to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm so that Californians can make informed decisions about protecting themselves.

This is separate from FDA or other Federal legislation and applies specifically to California – all products manufactured or distributed in the state are subject to Prop 65. The levels involved are generally far stricter than accepted federal levels and The California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) publishes a list every year of chemicals to which Prop 65 applies, with additions or removals from the list from time-to-time. There are currently around 900 chemicals listed.

Many of these chemicals have been used in everyday products for years without documented harm. The California government has clarified that a Prop 65 warning “is not the same as a regulatory decision that a product is ‘safe’ or ‘unsafe.’”

Centrapeak is subject to a Prop 65 warning.

Each daily serving of Centrapeak contains 75mg of Mucuna Pruriens Extract (seed) (40% Levodopa).

The safety of Larodopa (levodopa) in women who are or who may become pregnant has not been established: Studies in rodents have shown that levodopa at dosages in excess of 200 mg/kg/day has an adverse effect on fetal and postnatal growth and viability.

200mg per day per kilo of bodyweight is far more than the serving in Centrapeak, but as stated on the label of the product, Centrapeak should not be consumed by pregnant women at all.
